Aspects of health and healing

So what is health really? The World Health Organization defined health as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." This broader definition points to the impossibility for one medical system to maintain health.

There are many interwoven aspects to health. Here is my take:
1. Psycho-spiritual (alignment with meaning & living with joy)
2. Bio-energetic (energetic dynamic and self-regulation)
3. Bio-chemical (nutrition and allergy/sensitivities)
4. Bio-mechanical (structural integrity)

In Asian medicine health is likened to growing a garden and each person either grows their health or sows the seeds of disease. Tending a garden is an on-going process that requires personal attention. Otherwise we cannot expect a yield that matches our needs or expectations. With the increased pressures of modern life not to mention chemicals in our environment, conventional medicine cannot safeguard all the aspects of our health. The good news is that there are plenty of dedicated practitioners of other healing arts that are willing and able to assist people in tending to other aspects of health. Alison and myself are experts in the energetic aspect of the body among other things and enjoy helping people discover and expand this dimension of health and vitality.
